Wright School Class Projects

The Olympians started the New Year off with a new series of classes, about Houses and Homes. They discussed different kinds of homes, different building materials, and the wisdom of the choices made by the Three Little Pigs in the construction of their homes! They learned about all the different people who work together to build a home, and each played a role (contractor, carpenter, plumber, architect, etc) in helping their teacher, Ms. Sitz, build her dream home!

The Olympians then did a lot of home design and creation themselves. They drew pictures of their dream homes, used architectural shapes to design their own buildings, and worked with clay to create houses which were then fired in Wright School’s kiln. To top it all off (so to speak) they made roofs for their clay houses. Take a look!

This is A's house design on paper.

A. decided on a shingle roof for his white clay house. (There is a chair inside to sit on!)

D. designed this castle: "This house is a castle. There are flags waving and shields."

D.'s red clay house has a plain roof with a red chimney.

J. designed a lighthouse: "I am fishing at the top of the light house!"

J. selected brown thatch for the roof of his white clay house. J. also made a chair for his house.

L. designed a pyramid: "It is really hot in Egypt. You can use the stairs to go up to the dome. You can go in the dome and see the whole wide world!"

L.'s red clay house has a colorful roof of shingles.

This is C's White House: "It has columns. When you're the President, you tell people what to do!"

This is S.'s red clay house with a red brick roof --S. added a chimney after finishing the brick roof.

This is C's red clay house with a roof decorated with collage. This is one side of the roof--look to the right to see the other side...

This is the other side of C's house with the collaged roof.

This is G's "plain old house. It's a dream house!"

G. chose a thatched roof for his red clay house and he made a circular window to look through.
