Chris Lewis Wright School's New North Carolina Intervention (NCI) Trainer Congratulations to Chris Lewis, Lead Resource Teacher Counselor at Wright School!
Chris recently completed all the requirements to be certified as a North Carolina Intervention (NCI) instructor. NCI is an intervention program designed by the Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services staff. Most importantly, NCI is a prevention program and teachers our staff how to intervene early in a child's escalation cycle and provide positive behavioral supports, enabling them to avoid using restrictive holds or physical interventions whenever possible. NCI also includes instruction in how to safely use specific physical interventions techniques should they be required.
Chris was selected to be an NCI trainer because of his exceptional NCI skills both in prevention and physical techniques, his high-visibility role at Wright School, and his considerable leadership skills.
Chris also participates in weekly meetings of Wright School's NCI Internal Review Committee and participates in the review of all individual Behavior Intervention Plans to make sure that children are being kept safe.
Congratulations, again, Chris, and thanks for your extra effort!
Note: Niguel Barnes, Evening Lead Teacher Counselor, is also finishing up his NCI Instructor training. We'll let you know when he is finished!
